The North Island

The North Island of New Zealand — or “Te Ika-a-Maui” as renamed in 2013 in native Maori tongue – is the most populous of the country’s many islands. It is the 14th largest island in the world. Legend has it that the demigod Maui was fishing from a canoe and went on to chop up a great fish he pulled from the sea. The fish became the North Island of New Zealand.

Being located above a geothermal system, the island is replete with hot springs, mud pools, geysers and its beautiful landscape is characterized by large volcanic mountains, lush forests, languorous beaches punctuated by craggily rock formations and the crystal blue waters of the Pacific.

Such a magical island imbues its waters with a pure, mystical touch making Broken Shed Vodka so distinct and unique.
