Add the crushed star anise, anise seeds, and caraway seeds to a dry skillet and stir over medium-high heat until fragrant and toasted (about a minute).
To a glass container, add the liquorice root, toasted spices, and Broken Shed Vodka. Let sit at room temperature for 5 days, shake occasionally, then strain through a cheesecloth-lined sieve. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water and stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and stir in a ¼ cup of the vodka mixture. Let cool, then add the remaining vodka. Serve over ice alongside some hot mixed nuts with truffle honey and flaky sea salt.
